Sensitive matters is part of my vision of creating a more compassionate world. I am a counselor, artist, mom and most importantly, fellow human, who is passionate about helping create a world of inner calm with a recovered capacity for joy and self-love.
“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”
― Brené Brown
A few words from Christina:
Born in Germany, I left for the US when I was 18 years old after losing my mother to breast cancer. Live’s journey brought me to Ubud, Bali 15 years ago, which is now home. After many years of struggling, I have found ways to overcome my own destructive coping mechanisms and have made it my life’s passion to empower others to connect with their essence, accompanying them on their journey toward loving themselves, their bodies, and their lives.
I am a certified Somatic Coach as well as a certified practitioner of the Compassionate Inquiry method developed by Gabor Maté. I have also completed thorough training in the Internal Family Systems approach to therapy. I’m also a certified postpartum doula.
I am also the designer and director of the ethical jewelry label Ananda Soul. My designs carry the essence of nurturing, love, sustainability, and mindfulness.
What is Compassionate Inquiry?
Compassionate Inquiry is a gentle therapeutic approach that helps individuals connect to the truth within themselves in the present moment — thereby becoming free from self-generated suffering and gaining insight, clarity, and choice in their behavior.
During a Compassionate Inquiry session the client's sense of safety is deeply honored: the process is very much "client-led", unfolding at the client's pace, and based largely on the wisdom provided by the client's bodily sensations.
Compassionate Inquiry was developed by Gabor Maté, trauma and addiction expert and the author of several books including "When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress" and "Scattered Minds: A New Look at the Origins and Healing of Attention Disorder".
After decades of work as a family physician and frontline worker caring for people with severe drug addiction, Gabor developed Compassionate Inquiry with the assistance of naturopathic doctor Sat Dharam.
“The purpose of Compassionate Inquiry is to drill down to the core stories people tell themselves – to get them to see what story they are telling themselves unconsciously; what those beliefs are, where they came from; and guide them to the possibility of letting go of those stories, or letting go of the hold those stories have on them."
Christina received her CI certification in March 2023 after completing the 1-year professional training as well as the 6-months mentorship program under Gabor Maté and the Compassionate Inquiry training.
What is IFS - Internal Family Systems?
Internal Family Systems is a non-pathologizing form of psychotherapy that acknowledges and works with the natural multiplicity of the mind. In IFS, we focus on someone’s internal “parts” and “Self.”
IFS is based on the assumption that there are no bad parts, only parts who learned or were forced into bad or destructive roles - meanwhile always having ultimately good intentions for the client’s whole. When we learn how to access Self, cultivating a capacity of compassion and understanding for these parts, we ultimately are able to heal any parts that were hurt. Over time, as the different parts heal, the whole system can come into harmony which results in a reduction in problematic or symptomatic behavior.
Christina has completed the IFS Stepping Stone certification program.
Why the somatic approach?
Our body carries the wisdom to heal itself. It is in the body where we store traumatic memories, where we hold the tension, and where ultimately, we can release the charges and ease into full well-being.
Looking at healing, at a state of being ‘whole’, from a body-oriented approach has the power to bypass the mind and stories and access the subconscious memory of the body. The terms somatic, body-oriented, embodied can be used interchangeably as they all speak to the origins of the word ‘Soma’ being the Greek word for the body in its wholeness - not simply the psychical aspect of skin and bones but the life-giving aspects, the life force running through this physical body of ours.
This approach acknowledges the myriad of findings that reveal that our neurology, psychology, and biology are deeply intertwined and we can not invite healing, invite wholeness in one without the others, without seeing this being as a whole, ‘holistic’ expression of life force.
Embodiment and somatic practices have been a crucial component of Christina’s own healing journey, a big reason why she chose to become a certified Somatic Coach.
Combining it all:
Together, these modalities complement each other as they acknowledge the programming & coping mechanisms learned throughout the course of our lives while lovingly bringing attention and awareness to the healing capacities of the body and the ever-present wholeness residing in each and every one of us.
